Reviews of Diecast Cars, Trucks, etc.

As you might know from reading my overview of Mattel's new Fast and Furious line for 2017, they have started to release 1/55 diecast vehicles from The Fast and Furious movie franchise across all the films.  This section is going to attempt to keep track of what has been released.  Picture this as a work-in-progress guide to what is out there and not a definite guide with some mistakes slipping through.  Check the main reviews section for other diecast, model cars and radio control write-ups and comparisons.  All of my reviews unless otherwise stated are products that were purchased directly from a retail establishment or spotted there either in-person or online.

Mattel's Fast & Furious 1/55 Diecast Line Reference Chart / Checklist for Series 1 / 2017

This table lists all of the Mattel Fast & Furious 1/55 single diecast vehicles released so far that I know of from the Fast and Furious movie franchise and have either saw personally myself or online for sale in actual packages.  Vehicles which are exclusive to gift packs such as three or five packs are listed with EX for the # (car number) and listed here as a bonus.  By all means this is not a complete listing and not toted as a definitive guide.  I will try to include some feature photos here and there but do not plan to include links to photos of all of the cars or collector sets.   I doubt the first rounds of cars from late 2016 and 2017 will become harder to find as many had to be discounted with the glut of the first singles out there of the original releases like the 1970s Ford Escort and 1969 Charger Daytona but the Eclipse and others seem to be not as quick to get out there - these are not serial numbered or limited except of course to cars being exclusive in the various gift packs instead of being released as singles.  I am not listing cars in the playsets as they look identical to what is available in single packs unless later they include an exclusive vehicle.  The vehicle years and car names including the movies are taken directly off the 1/55 line packages.  I will add anything noteworthy about the vehicle in the Comments section if there is any.  Looks like Mattel has discontinued this 1/55 line-up for the moment so we will see what the future brings as for 2019 they are focusing on their Hot Wheels 1/64 Premium Line-Up of Fast and Furious cars.

A big Thank You goes out to the many people who have provided me with tips, photos and information for this guide as it wouldn't be as complete or detailed without your help.  Some that I'd like to specially thank include Chris Lee who helped provide Toys-R-Us exclusive and new release single car information.  The many others who have noted auctions and spotted prototypes, test shots and other items to confirm they are out in the retail market such as people like Sigi, Chris Lee, Colin, Damin,  Emmanuelle from Mexico, Steve J., etc..  I appreciate all your help with this guide and series of Mattel 1/55 cars from the Fast and Furious movie franchise as without all you collectors this guide wouldn't be possible.

LAST UPDATED 11/30/2019 - PAST UPDATES:

LATE 2019:  Sigi reports that many of the harder to find cars are turning up in other parts of the world thus being listed on the famous auction site for the UK area.  They could have gotten new stock in by chance.  There are some interesting variations such as the Elite-8 pack you can read about below such as color variations and different packages.

EARLY 2019:  1/55 Car Found in Blu-Ray Pack of 1 to 7 Fast & Furious Movies - Sigi informed me that he had found a special Blu-Ray set of one to seven movies that includes a bonus diecast vehicle:  The Ram Armored Truck w/Snow Plow from F8 / Fate of the Furious which previously was only found in the Road Muscle Pack -Five Car Set.  No idea why they decided to include that vehicle unless Mattel had extra stock on-hand for that.  I'd still go for the Road Muscle Pack - Five Car Set unless you would like the first seven movies on Blu-Ray - check your Region codes and such before buying.  View a photo of this Blu-Ray set and truck via Sigi's Flickr album.

DISCOUNT STORE FIND:  Check Ollie's Discount Outlet, their website is at www.ollies.us for locations near you within the USA.  I'm not guaranteeing you'll find any 1/55 Fast and Furious Mattel cars but I did come across some stock of them at my local store.  They didn't have any of the latest releases but you never know.  I did find one each of the Mitsubishi Eclipses for my collection, the green 1996 and the 2F2F convertible in purple.  They also had some of the first issues and the Corvette Grand Sport roadster in silver as of early July 2018.  Each store is different so the caveat is that they might not have any but be sure to check the toy section where they hang cars and such on the pegs behind other items, etc.

EIGHT PACK:  There is a pack of eight 1/55 cars out as spotted by Chris Lee on eBay called "Fate of the Legends".  This doesn't included any special exclusive cars but does have the 2012 Nissan GT-R [R35] in Blue (Ben Sopra), 2015 Jaguar F-Type, Mercedes AMG GT, 1956 Ford Victoria, 1970 Dodge Charger Off-Road, 1961 Chevy Impala, 1996 Mitsubishi Eclipse (Brian's Green Car from the first movie) and the Local Motors Rally Fighter.  The set also includes a mini poster.  No word what stores are going to carry this but it is another brown box set like the first Elite 8 pack that Amazon carries.

POSTER:  In April 2018, Colin M. emailed me a photo of the front and back of the mini poster included in the later issues of these cars.  The poster says Series 2017.  Sadly they haven't hit the US in plentiful supply if at all for everyone looking to get these new ones for their collection like the 2F2F Pink Honda S2000 and Eclipse, etc.  They do show all 32 cars as Sigi pointed out to me, a fellow collector and has an extensive photo album of F&F merchandise to showcase.  The package says about a free mini poster, they seem to be in the latest release of cars such as the white Subaru.

SPECIAL NOTE - Late February 2018:  An interesting note, I got emailed a few photos of the newer cars coming out which also helped me fill in the guide along with confirmation from Steve J. These are going to include a mini poster according to an email I got from a site visitor Damin M. who I thank for this info. Unfortunately, I don't know when the rest of this series will be released as some areas have them but I haven't spotted them myself locally in the US in person or online like Amazon, Walmart.com or Mattel.com  They haven't hit the US shelves but are spotted online on auction websites Internationally so other areas / counties seem to have the last batch. I wish I could be of more help to collectors of this series.  Number 7 and 25 are the only open spots as the 1972 Plymouth GTX is numbered at 32 the same as the Ford GT-40 most likely as an error I presume.

OTHER PAST UPDATES:  Sigi pointed out this post on T-Hunted that shows a poster which has a three car pack that I haven't seen around with a yellow Ferrari 458 Italia exclusive car.  Also got info from Steve J. on the Mercedes AMG-GT and Koenigsegg CCXR to fit them in two empty slots on the list.  As confirmed with Sigi, the '12 Subaru Impreza WRX STI has not been spotted out for sale in the retail market.

Looking for photos and detailed shots of these cars? Check out Sigi D's 1/55 Fast & Furious album on Flickr.

The Elite-8 Pack comes in two variations - one in a flat cardboard box and one in a display box avaialble from Mexico such as pictured here on Sigi's Flickr from his collection - Display Box Variation Elite 8 Pack.(Mexico Only?)

The Furiously Fueled Seven Pack include the #17 2010 Koenigsegg CCXR from Fast Five and #8 Letty's Local Motors Rally Fighter from F8.  The seven pack also includes the harder to find #30 1966 Corvette and #4 1956 Ford Victoria.

Interesting variation as told from a Mexican collector and I thank Sigi for the info - seems that there are two variations as well of the Furiously Fueled Seven Pack.  The rarer second version includes metallic paint on the Roadrunner plus the Koenigsegg has only silver front lights like on a single card.  More common is the one with the plain orange Roadrunner and front lights are detailed.

There are more variations such as on the packaging themselves from text in different languages and white / black colors, etc. but that would be for someone else to cover those as I don't want this guide to get too complicated or overwhelming for myself to keep current and updated.  Thanks to everyone who have helped and are helping to keep the guide current with your finds out there in the world.  It is great to have collectors like you.

With the suggestion of a few visitors especially Sigi D., I decided to do a listing of the prototypes out there.  There is no verified quantity of these made but they have been turning up on that popular auction website.  They range from 3D printed examples in plastic, diecast, painted test shots including finished 3D printed items to pre-production samples.  If by chance, Mattel does do a Series 2 then I'll remove them from this list and move them to a Series 2 list.  At this time in 2019, it looks pretty dim to see another series due to the way the first series was distributed and never really finished.  They are now focusing on the Hot Wheels line-up and a premium collector series in 1/64 scale instead.

From checking the blog at T-hunted to see what diecast news they have, I noticed a plain 2009 Dodge Challenger Wide Body metal prototype in 1/55 or a 2011 as they call it since Mattel has it noted on the bottom, probably Dom's ride from the end of Fast Five.

Thanks goes to Emmanuelle from Mexico who emailed me information and photos of two more cars possibly to complete the original 32 or it means Mattel is going to do a second set of 32.  They could also be special exclusives in packs which I don't know as of yet but one is the Tokyo Drift 1967 Mustang and the other is the DeTomaso Pantera from Fast Five.

Colin C. emailed me a compilation of the first six which I thank him for to get this started and the rest comes from Sigi D. who provided me with the others.  They are also keeping me updated as they spotted two more prototypes recently.  There is also a photo and sample of the Veilside RX-7 in orange and black floating around which will probably be an exclusive car in another special pack but that's still speculation.  I have done some edits and corrections to the list.

Pricing and values can't be put on these vehicles in the list on the left.  I'll leave that up to the collector and auction market to determine that.  Remember though there is always a slim possibility these vehicles could go into regular production in the future.  They will be moved to the regular list(s) in case this happens.

The prototype number sits now at 35 total so far that were in the designing stages.

Special note that there might be other packs of vehicles released from Mattel to various retail and online locations i.e. Toys-R-Us and Target which may not be reflected here along with exclusive cars and decorations.  I'll try my best to list them here as I find reference material about them but this is not a complete and definitive listing, use it as a guide only to what is/was out there.  These are being released in waves with cars / vehicles carried over but as with their Hot Wheels line-up they should release the others new ones in this series over time.  An example of a special release single is on the right available at Toys-R-Us as a July 2017 promotion which is noted as an Exclusive Vehicle.  This as reported by Chris Lee as it is in the colors of Dom's 1970 Dodge Charger Off-Road from Furious 7 but is the Customized 1969 Dodge Charger Daytona from Furious 6 mold #29.  This car hasn't appeared in any of the films but is more of a promotional piece as it has Fast & Furious on the rear in the red panted area.  Since these cars aren't serial numbered, we don't know how rare they'll become.

F8 is also known as The Fate of The Furious with some cards especially overseas showing The Fate of the Furious instead of F8 especially the newer issues.  Once I can verify North America based packaging for the newer releases such as the #26 1961 Chevy Impala, I will note if they are still using F8.  This is similar to how there are subtle differences in US / North America vs. International packaging with their Hot Wheels line if they are indeed using two different titles for the same movie.

*Unofficial until Mattel releases a single car from Fast & Furious or FF4 for the correct wording or title they'll use.  The same goes with Tokyo Drift or FF3.

CAMO SERIES - 2018:  While browsing Walmart's website, I came across six Camo Series Cars as noted that they were inspired by vehicles from The Fast and Furious movie series.  They look like repaints from the 1:55 Line with camouflage inspired paint schemes.  These include the Off-Road 1970 Dodge Charger, International MXT, Off-Road 2011 Dodge Challenger SRT8, Ripsaw Tank, Rally Fighter and Custom Downhill Buggy with all being possible Walmart exclusives but I'm not sure at this point of time.  The description for each states:  "

This guide should get you started on what is out there for Series 1 (2017) and I'll keep it updated as best I can.  Feel free to email me your comments / questions and updates regarding this list.
